Intentional Content Marketing

How to Create Intentional Content That Gets Results

In Episode Seven [7] of Making Sense of Social Media, I interview Abby Wood, the owner and founder of The Content Lab, a content marketing agency based in Ireland. In this episode, Abby shares her insights on how small business owners can create and distribute intentional content that will help them build brand awareness and get their message out there.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Focus on quality over quantity: It’s better to have one high-quality social media update per week than 20 low-quality ones. There is a lot of misinformation out there, and highly publicized opinions on both sides of this “fence”, but what matters MOST is that you’re able to create and distribute QUALITY content in a manner of consistency and time commitment that doesn’t burn you out.

  2. Do your research: Before you start creating content, it is abundantly important to do your research on who your target audience is and where they spend most of their time online. This will dictate where you post most often, as OPPOSED to where you personally feel most comfortable or enjoy spending time.

  3. Repurpose your content: Don’t feel like you have to create all new content all the time. Repurpose existing content, such as blog posts and long-form videos, into shorter snippets for your social media audience. If you have been providing the same services or products for a long time, I encourage you to look back at your content and effectively repurpose content that previously performed well. Just a note, this is a more acceptable tactic on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn over TikTok.

  4. Use storytelling: People connect with stories, so use them in your content to build relationships (enhancing the know/like/trust factor) with your audience. Specifically, Instagram has so many tools to use in this regard, if you choose to use the story functionality on one platform, let it be Instagram.

  5. Be authentic: Let your personality shine through in your content. People buy from people they like and trust. This cannot be overstated. Time and time again this is proven to be true.

Standout Pointers:

  1. Abby recommends using a content calendar to plan and schedule your social media posts. This is a great tip for anyone who feels overwhelmed by social media. A content calendar can help you stay organized and ensure that you’re posting consistent content.

  2. She also suggests using a mix of different content formats, such as videos, images, and text. This is a great way to keep your audience engaged and interested. People are more likely to pay attention to content that is visually appealing and varied.

  3. If you’re nervous about getting on camera, you can do a voiceover or create a video using animation or graphics. There are many ways to create engaging video content without having to be in front of the camera.

Overall, this episode is packed with valuable tips and advice for small business owners who want to use social media to grow their businesses. I highly recommend watching the full episode for more insights from Abby Wood.
