Create Social Media Content, Event When It’s Not Easy
Social Media Content Creation Tips
In today’s digital age, having a strong social media presence is essential for any small business. But creating engaging and relevant content can feel like a challenge, especially if you’re not a social media “guru”, or if you are shy, introverted, awkward, or feel like you simply have no idea what to say.
Today’s Making Sense of Social Media podcast features JoAnn Krall, a Professional Organizer who uses social media to market her business. JoAnn shares her tips for creating social media content that gets results, even if you’re not comfortable on camera or don’t have a lot of time.
Focus on Quality, Not Quantity
In this episode, JoAnn shares that it’s better to post a few high-quality pieces of content than a lot of low-quality ones. People can spot inauthentic content from a mile away, so it’s important to take the time to create content that you’re proud of. Having been internet friends with JoAnn for as long as I have (we think it’s back to 2016!), I can verify that this is indeed exactly how she works her own social media marketing.
Be Consistent
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it probably 100 times already, and
JoAnn agrees: regularly posting is key to building a following on social media. Even if it’s just once a week, make sure to post something new and engaging for your audience. When you’re consistent, your audience grows to rely on you and your content being published on those days. They begin to expect and anticipate it!
Use Stories
People love stories, and stories are a great way to connect with your audience on a far more personal level. As you begin to develop, or evolve, your content marketing strategy, make sure you share stories about your business, your customers, or even yourself … DAILY!
Be Yourself
Authenticity is the entire premise of SOCIAL media! I know it’s hard to fathom in today’s age of influencer marketing, but don’t let that stop you from showing up, and even being vulnerable with your audience. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Your audience will appreciate your authenticity, so let your personality shine through in your content.
Have Fun!
Social media should be enjoyable, so don’t take it too seriously. If you’re having fun, it will show in your content and your audience will be able to tell. I love this tip and have to remind myself of it often. When we get eager to make change, get more sales, or figure out different parts of our small business journey, we often lose sight of the HUMAN side of social media marketing. When you feel yourself tensing up or feeling inauthentic, sit back, take a deep breath, and have some FUN with your content!
Bonus Tips from JoAnn
Overcome your fear of being on camera: Practice makes perfect! Start by recording yourself talking about your business, and then gradually share those videos with your audience.
Use humor to connect with your audience: People love to laugh, so don’t be afraid to crack a joke or two in your content.
